We’re a small team With big ideas
and a passion for doing things well
David co-founded Red Facilities and has directed its growth from a single studio into one of Scotland's most trusted names in audio post-production. More recently he has added video filming, directing and editing to his toolkit – a natural extension for someone who has spent decades thinking about how image and audio work together.
He has the rare ability to move fluidly between the creative and operational sides of the business, and has built a substantial career as a voice artist along the way, with credits spanning multiple countries and more than a few memorable campaigns.
If you've ever wondered who keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes, it's him, though he'd probably deflect the credit, make a self-deprecating comment, and ask if you'd like another coffee.
DAVID JOHNSTON
Max has been producing audio for advertising for over 35 years, and it shows in the quality of the work, the depth of the client relationships, and the ability to hear exactly what's wrong with a mix before the session has properly started.
As a founding partner of Red Facilities, he's helped shape the creative direction of the studio, and played a central role in building the reputation it carries today.
He's also a respected voice artist with a global client list spanning agencies and brands on six continents, though he tends to underplay it in the way that people do when they're genuinely good at something.
Whatever time remains after all of that gets divided between the ski slopes, the kitchen, and the Pilates studio, usually in that order.
MAX HOWARTH
James has been Senior Engineer at Red Facilities for over 20 years, which makes him the closest thing the studio has to a founding fixture.
He learned his craft across an unlikely trio of locations: Inverness, Aberdeen and China, and brought back something valuable from each.
There is genuinely nothing he can't handle in the studio, whether that's a complex 5.1 mix, a fast-turnaround commercial or an ADR session with a director dialling in from three time zones away.
He also holds the rare distinction of being both an exceptional engineer and a brilliant voiceover artist in his own right, which means he understands what's happening on both sides of the glass.
